The people of Sibiu will have the opportunity to delight their eyes with a series of creations in the spirit of the Easter holidays, signed by Mariana Andone Rotaru. The artist will exhibit, within the Brukenthal National Museum, icons made on ostrich eggs stamped with gold and silver leaf, AGERPRES announces. The opening will take place on Friday, April 26, starting at 2:00 p.m.

The Brukenthal National Museum will open the titled exhibition on Friday In Search of Paradise Lost of the artist Mariana Andone Rotaru. On this occasion, art lovers will unravel the secrets of an original way of decorating the Easter egg, both inking and inlaying. The artist’s creations harmoniously combine crafts and occupations with ancient roots in our lands. Her visual concern is centered on the habit of dyeing eggs, the artist choosing to reproduce themes of religious inspiration on the ovaloid surfaces. The exhibitor thus proposed to bring back to life an archaic and sacred world, also touched to some extent by mysticism.

In the case of many creations that will be exhibited, the work surface is divided into two. The iconographic theme is framed on one of these. The decoration on the opposite side of the icon reveals its own composition, marked by signs and symbols, which is based on elements from the field of national fabrics. The reinterpreted motifs are therefore inspired by heritage museum collections or private collections. The special ornamentation was made possible with 24K gold leaf and silver leaf. The drawing was made with beeswax, melted with the help of a pen.

Some of the spectacular ostrich eggs, which will be exhibited to the viewers, are decorated with traditional Romanian motifs. The effects obtained on their surfaces are reminiscent of the mastery of embroidery found on the islands of ancestors from various regions of the country.

MaryAndo’s creations concentrate several ancient techniques. Among them are: inking with successive color baths by protecting the background with wax, physico-chemical encrustation in eggshell, inking with wax in relief, applying other decorative elements. MaryAndo shuddered d’or is a registered trademark of OSIM, representing an original work concept by Mariana Andone Rotaru. The artist was born in the Republic of Moldova and is part of the first generation of Bessarabian students who came to study in Romania.
