The police in Neamț elucidated a case of ingenious theft after a 71-year-old man reported that the sum of 4,500 lei and two precious jewels disappeared from his apartment, estimating a total damage of approximately 8,500 lei.
After investigations, the police put the facts together and identified the thieves’ modus operandi: an employee of a local car service, a 38-year-old man took advantage of the moment when the victim left his car for repairs, copying the car keys at home, found in the vehicle.

In the interval when the owner was absent, in complicity with a 31-year-old woman, they entered the home and committed the theft.

On April 8 this year, around 3:00 p.m., the police officers from the Roman Municipality Police were alerted by a 71-year-old man from Roman, regarding the fact that they had been stolen from apartment money and gold jewelry.
Following the investigations carried out by the police, it emerged that, on the same date, between 09:00 and 13:30, while the 71-year-old man was out of the building, unknown persons allegedly stole the sum of approximately 4,500 of lei and two pieces of gold jewelry, causing a damage of approximately 8,500 lei.
Following the operative investigative activities carried out by the police, it was possible to identify and track down the persons suspected of committing the crime of qualified theft, a 31-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man.
At the same time, it seems that the mode of operation of the persons suspected of committing the act was a complex one.
Thus, while the injured person would have left his car in a service, the 38-year-old man, an employee of the service, would have made a copy of the keys to the injured person’s building, keys that would have been left in inside the car, and while the car was being serviced, he and the 31-year-old woman would have entered the building, where they would have stolen money and jewelry.
On April 23, 2011, the persons suspected of committing the act were ordered to be detained for a period of 24 hours, and on April 24, they were presented to the Roman Court, which ordered the measure against them house arrest for a period of 30 days.
