Romania is discreetly preparing for the reintroduction of compulsory military service, reports Digi24, quoted by BTA and BNR from Sofia.
In its material on this topic, the station notes that, although there has been a war on the border for two years, and the budget of the Ministry of National Defense has increased significantly, Romania is facing a huge shortage of personnel. The ministry’s data shows that the biggest deficit is in officers, where the employment rate is only 57 percent.
The television station gives the example of Bulgaria, where the deficit in this indicator is 26 percent. “Bulgarian authorities point to malicious information campaigns regarding Russia’s war against Ukraine, as well as the poor state of the Bulgarian military system.
The government in Sofia recommends a public debate on the possible introduction of mandatory military training,” the station notes.
