Appeal for the access of the sick to vital treatments. The Association of Manufacturers of Generic Medicines in Romania draws attention to the fact that urgent measures are needed so that a greater number of patients have access to generic and biosimilar medicines, which are effective and have low prices.

The Association of Manufacturers of Generic Medicines in Romania appeals to the authorities to come up with quick measures so that patients will NOT have to interrupt their vital treatment. All the solutions for optimizing and making the expenses of the health system more efficient were discussed during a conference in which the Minister of Finance also participated.

“We are waiting for the CNAS, which is the credit orderer, to come up with some viable solutions, some sustainable solutions for a management, a real administration of this drug budget, some solutions that, we hope, will provide generic and bio-similar drugs the importance they deserve”, said Arina Gholmieh, vice-president of APMGR.

Generic and biosimilar medicines help to optimize healthcare spending due to lower prices compared to innovative medicines. Consequently, patients have easier and faster access to the necessary treatments.

“An estimate made for the next 5 years shows that the medicines that will enter the next 3.2 years 24-2026 will bring savings to this budget of over 500 million euros”, says Simona Cocos, president of APMGR.

The solutions proposed by the Association of Manufacturers of Generic Medicines in Romania are supported by Minister Marcel Boloș.

“All these measures related to better management of funds are in our attention. It would be good to receive them and registered if possible, because we are trying to organize a specialized structure within the Ministry of Finance for these so-called better use of budget funds”, explained Marcel-Ioan Boloș, Minister of Finance.

Vital medicines are at risk of disappearing from Romania, if the measures promised by the authorities are not implemented quickly, draw the attention of representatives of the pharmaceutical industry.

“We will reach a situation where no one will bring these products anymore and believe me they will be very difficult to replace and I think this is the point where we are and we have to say once again we all agree that the system is in a point and that generic medication and bio-similar medication are a solution. We understand that the Ministry of Health is currently working on new drug policies”, said Mihai Fugarevici, general director of STADA Romania.

8 out of 10 patients in Romania are treated with generic drugs.
