Imported cherries are sold in Sibiu for 150 lei per kilogram. In Piata Cibin, those who wish can for now find the so popular fruits specific for the end of spring, only at two stalls.
With the amount of 150 lei per kilogram, as the price indicates, you can buy a kilogram of good quality cherries, with a fresh appearance, which seem to be ripe. In addition, those willing to satisfy their craving for seasonal fruits can opt for Romanian strawberries for 25 lei per kilogram or strawberries from Greece for 13 lei.
“Cherries are 150 lei. That was the price last year as well. We don’t know when we bring Romanian cherries”, said one of the sellers.
Cherries that seem to be of a different variety, smaller in size, are available at the adjacent stall, packed in casseroles that sell for around 50 lei. However, the price per kilogram remains constant, being 150 lei, as the saleswoman says, you have to take her word for it because there is no price displayed at the stall.
“The price is 150 lei. The casserole is about 50 lei, it’s from Greece,” said the seller.
The residents of Sibiu do not crowd the stalls in search of cherries; on the contrary, some of them are surprised and even disturbed by the high prices.
“Give me a pound of cherries, please! Aaa, is it 150 lei? I don’t want it anymore, I saw the wrong price,” said one customer.
