USR mayors make massive investments in the modernization of public transport in the cities they administer.

In Brașov, the mayor Allen Coliban already has the largest fleet of electric buses in Romania, and Dominic Fritz has started, in Timișoara, the replacement of the entire public transport fleet, through a record 75 million euro financing obtained from European funds .

48 electric buses will also be bought in Bacău, where mayor Lucian Stanciu-Viziteu has already installed smart bus stations. And at Intorsura Buzăului (Covasna county), the mayor Raul Urdă will re-establish public transport, by purchasing some electric means of transport.

Nicușor Dan, the general mayor of Bucharest, supported by the United Dreapta Unită alliance, also made massive investments in public transport – 300 electric buses, trams and trolleybuses will circulate on the capital’s streets by the end of the year.

USR mayors have attracted record funding from European funds for the purchase of new electric buses, trams and trolleybuses, the modernization of tram lines and bus stations, the creation of dedicated lanes for public transport and the better connection of different areas in the city and of the neighboring areas.

Brașov – the largest fleet of electric buses in Romania

Allen Coliban brought Brașov to first place in Romania for ecological public transport. The city currently has the largest fleet of electric buses in Romania.

Brașov has in its transport fleet 72 electric buses of various sizes, 51 electric trolleybuses, which also run on wire, but also on batteries, where there is no electric cable infrastructure, and 10 hybrid buses.

Allen Coliban also has contracts already signed for another 95 electric buses, with funding from PNRR, which will allow the replacement of the entire fleet, including the metropolitan one, with new green buses.

The mayor of USR also built the largest, most modern and greenest terminal for the public transport network in Brașov. The terminal has 12 platforms – 4 equipped with fast charging stations – and interior spaces for waiting, ticket offices, etc.

The largest electric bus garage in Romania is also being built in Brașov. 150 electric buses will thus be able to be charged and maintained, to operate at the highest parameters – each parking space will have a charging station, part of the necessary energy being produced with the help of photovoltaic panels.

Allen Coliban is also setting up dedicated lanes for public transport, on several streets in the city, for almost 13 km. Buses and trolleybuses in the city will thus reach their destination faster, even during peak hours.

100% electric transport in Brașov – this is the goal of USR mayor Allen Coliban for the near future.

Timișoara – the entire transport fleet will be renewed

The town hall led by Dominic Fritz has already purchased 23 new trams and 44 electric buses, which run on the streets of Timișoara.

Another 17 new trams will arrive in Timisoara this year. The purchase of 33 new trolleybuses and 30 electric buses is also under preparation.

Dominic Fritz obtained a financing of 75 million euros from European funds for the replacement of 150 buses, trolleybuses and trams. The entire public transport fleet of Timișoara will thus be renewed.

421 million lei from the 2024 budget were allocated for the modernization of public transport in Timișoara. The money will be used both for the purchase of non-polluting means of transport and for the modernization of tram lines.

Also, 15 fast charging stations for electric buses will be installed in the city, through an investment of almost 3 million lei. Charging an electric bus will thus be reduced to only 40-50 minutes, from the 4-5 hours it used to take until now.

In addition, it will be possible to charge for 10 minutes between journeys, so that the buses have continuity on the route.

Bacău – new electric buses and smart stations

Mayor Lucian Stanciu-Viziteu is also modernizing public transport in Bacău. For the first time, Bacău residents will enjoy 100% electric buses.

The mayor of USR signed the contract for the purchase of the first batch of electric buses: 48 fully electric, non-polluting buses, 48 slow recharging stations and 16 fast recharging stations, with funding of over 145 million lei from PNRR.

In Bacău, 25 smart bus stations were also installed – modern, intelligent stations, in step with current technology. The stations are equipped with interactive information panels, which will allow travelers to better plan their travel time, but also with a lighting system, photovoltaic panel kit, video camera, wi-fi, environmental sensors and USB sockets.

After three decades, the residents of Intorsura Buzăului (Covasna county) will once again have public transport. And not just any kind of public transport, but a green one.

Mayor Raul Urdă obtained a financing of 1.3 million euros from PNRR to buy 3 electric minibuses and an electric bus. The mayor of USR also obtained a funding of 370,000 euros, for the installation of more than 20 bus stops, six of which are smart stations, equipped with photovoltaic panels and screens with real-time electronic display.

Nicușor Dan, the mayor supported by the United Right alliance at the Capital City Hall, made massive investments in public transport.

100 new trams, 100 new electric buses and 100 new trolleybuses were purchased in his first term, with European funds – all 300 means of transport will be on the streets of the Capital by the end of the year.

The capital’s public transport fleet is being expanded through new purchases, with money from the PNRR. Nicușor Dan is also investing in the modernization of 50 km of tram lines.

The location of all STB vehicles has been integrated into the Google Maps platform, which allows for the optimization of travel planning with public transport. Passengers can now see when the bus is coming and where it is on the route at every moment. Since integration, the platform records 2 million requests per week.

The price of tickets and subscriptions for surface transport was also standardized with that of the metro. Advantageous subscriptions for STB and shared metro have been introduced. The ticket for surface transport is now valid for an interval of 90 minutes, regardless of the number of means of transport changed.

New transport lines were introduced on streets where they had never existed, single lanes for surface public transport were made over a distance of 21.7 km, and night transport was optimized. All the measures taken led to an increase in the number of tickets sold.
