The Italian police arrested three Romanians suspected of a carefully prepared robbery in Italy. Two women pretended to be girlfriends, drugged a 91-year-old man from Parma, then stole, together with a man, 30,000 euros and jewelry, reports Il Giornale.

According to the Carabinieri, the three would have planned the robbery in detail. One of the women pretended to be a caretaker, so she entered the man’s house and inspected everything. Then he told everything to his accomplices.

The women returned to the victim’s home, drugged the old man with an anesthetic spray, managed to open the safe in the house and stole the old man’s money and jewelry.

The man was found a few hours later by his grandson, hit on the head and fell to the ground. He was taken to the hospital, and when he recovered, he told how he was drugged by the two women. However, he was unable to describe their accomplice.

The investigation was complex, say the Carabinieri.

The police managed to find the suspects after watching the images from the surveillance cameras in the area, they took fingerprints and biological samples from the victim’s house. At their home, they found 33,000 euros and jewelry well hidden in a closet.

A cigarette butt found at the thieves’ home gave him a complete clue. Investigators were able to collect DNA from him and compare it to biological samples taken from the old man’s home.

The three were caught and are now in a prison in Parma.
