The doctors from the “Louis Ţurcanu” Children’s Hospital in Timişoara are trying to find answers to the questions that arise in connection with the children and teachers from the CD Loga College, who suddenly fell ill.

The cause of the poisoning symptoms could be a virus.

They all had the same symptoms, abdominal pain, vomiting and some of them diarrhea, doctors say. Several students have tested positive for norovirus.

One of the cases was tested for a subtype of the virus, norovirus. What people need to understand is that we don’t test, not even being an infectious disease hospital, we don’t test what type of virus is causing the diarrhea, because the treatment is the same in every case. This particular epidemiological context makes us request, and we have done so, help to test this more particular type of virus. As a doctor, I went at first with the thought of intoxication, after which I saw that many of them have a fever, and then we move more and more towards an infectious pathology, possibly viral. Most commonly they are in dirty hands, through food or water-borne disease“, said pediatrician Mihai Gafencu.

The cause of the spread of the virus is not yet known. It is certain that 86 students and 21 teachers from CD Loga arrived at the hospital with digestive symptoms.

Among the patients who presented themselves at the emergency service, 15 children, of different ages, are hospitalized at the “Louis Țurcanu” Children’s Emergency Clinical Hospital, the other people, following the assessment of their health status, did not require hospitalization.

The epidemiological investigation is ongoing.

On Wednesday, April 3, 2024, classes at the well-known CD Loga College in Timișoara were suspended. It is possible that on Thursday, April 4, 2024, the classes will be done online.
