Good news for Romanian employees! The European minimum wage will be introduced in 2024 – Infofinanciar

--

According to an announcement by representatives of the Social Democratic Party, a priority objective has been established. It is, more precisely, about the European minimum wage. It could be introduced by the end of 2024.

Through its implementation, Romanian employees will benefit from more money. In this way, an increase will also be registered in the case of purchasing power, but also in the case of the standard of living.

Romania’s advance

An important step towards aligning the incomes of Romanian citizens with those of residents of other countries that are part of the European Union has already been made. It is about the announcement of Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, regarding the increase of the minimum wage to the amount of 3,700 lei. This measure will be applied from July 1.

The next target, which was assumed by the government program, is that by January 1 of 2025, none of our employees in the country will have an income of less than 500 euros net monthly.

Supporting the European minimum wage

The members of the Social Democratic Party want to implement the European minimum wage in our country by the end of the current year. This measure envisages the training of a cadre for:

  • an appropriate level of legal minimum wages in order to ensure decent living and working conditions;
  • promotion of collective negotiations for establishing salaries;
  • improving workers’ effective access to minimum wage protection rights in cases provided for by national law and/or collective agreements.

Increasing purchasing power

In order to increase the standard of living, but also the purchasing power for all our employees in the country, PSD representatives declare that there is already a team of experts. They deal with the definition of an automatic mechanism. What this will do is ensure that the minimum wage in our country is increased every year. This in a predictable manner.

By the end of 2023, the PSD working group, together with the Minister of Labour, Simona Bucura Oprescu, will develop a legislative proposal.

After returning to government alongside the PNL, the PSD declared itself a political formation oriented, above all, to the measures to protect the standard of living of the Romanian citizens in the face of the inflation that was caused by the energy crisis, but also by the war in Ukraine, informs flux24.ro

The current minimum wage

Currently, in our country, there are approximately 1.6 million employees who are employed with the minimum wage in the economy. Currently, its value is 3,300 lei gross. The net amount that employees receive monthly is a little over 2,000 lei.

In the area of the European Union, currently, the minimum wages per economy are very different. Employees in Luxembourg benefit from the highest minimum wage. At the opposite pole, with the lowest minimum wage is Bulgaria, and then our country.

In this way, Romania is the penultimate country in the EU when it comes to the value of the minimum wage per economy. It is worth 663 euros. The minimum wage per economy in Bulgaria is 477 euros. Luxembourg is in first place, with the highest income of 2,571 euros, according to monitorul.cj
