The installation of energy storage equipment is the main emergency of the national energy system, says Sebastian Burduja, the relevant minister. According to him, the situation on Sunday, when for several hours there were negative prices on the energy market due to low consumption, showed that the lack of storage put the stability of the energy system in difficulty. Romanians who access the Casa Verde program for photovoltaic panels should also be obliged to install storage capacities, he believes.

“The main emergency of the national energy system is storage. I saw the data from Sunday, a day with a very low consumption of 4,000 MW, if we don’t have storage capacity, we also put the producers of energy from renewables in difficulty, but also the stability of the energy system”, said the minister, in Solar Energy Bucharest Summit.

Asked if the new Casa Verde Photovoltaic program this year should also include storage equipment, he replied:

  • “This is the request I addressed to the Minister of the Environment, Mircea Fechet, and I found a lot of openness on his part. At the Ministry of Energy, we are interested in promoting storage, otherwise, with intermittent green energy production increasing, we also put the national energy system, the distribution and transport area in difficulty.
  • We must have the storage component. I personally support this idea. Casa Verde should also include support for the storage component.
  • From my point of view it should be mandatory, but finally it is the decision of Minister Fechet”.

HotNews.ro reported on Sunday that the energy market in Romania faced an extremely rare situation that day, namely negative prices in certain time intervals on the spot stock market.

More precisely, energy producers pay to have the energy they generate taken over, which is the opposite of normal.

This situation occurs when the production of electricity from renewable sources is very high and the consumption at the level of the country is very low.
