Foreigners want to invest in two villages in Gorj

“The two villages depopulated over the years. Most of those who stayed here migrated to the city”

Two villages in a commune in Gorj, which are home to only five families, could experience a significant revival if the local authorities would at least modernize the access road. It is about the village of Boia and the hamlet of Cula in the commune of Jupănești, areas where the local authorities state that there is interest from foreign investors from various corners of the world, but this would only happen after the modernization of the road infrastructure, according to Pandurul.

Many years ago, the village of Boia was home to 56 families, but now life is supported by only three of them. The number of houses is decreasing, and the passage of time has left deep traces on them. In the case of the hamlet of Cula, out of the 22 households, only two families are left that deal with animal breeding.

“The two villages depopulated over the years. Most of those who lived here migrated to the city, and thus we ended up with only three families left in the village of Boia, and only two in Cula. Fortunately for us, those who remain are in power and continue to farm and raise livestock. The hamlet of Cula is 6 kilometers away from the county road, and the village of Boia is 2 kilometers away. Maybe that was the reason why people left these villages”declared the mayor Ion Gârniceanu.

The two villages remained as they were decades ago, when they were inhabited, without any utility and without any investment made by the authorities for the people here, counted on the fingers.

“No investment was made in the two villages. In the village of Boia we have a stone road that we would like to pave in emergency situations”added the mayor of Jupânești commune.

If they want to save the two villages, the local authorities of Jupânești have another chance that comes from abroad. Foreigners from different corners of the world would like to make guesthouses here, but for this they require the authorities to modernize the roads to the two villages.

“I want to tell you that we were contacted by people from abroad who want to make guesthouses in the two villages, after they saw reports and images from Boia and Cula on the Internet. We have had calls from people from France, Switzerland, Germany and even the United States of America who would like to build their cabins here. They also sent us emails to the town hall that they want to buy land. The only condition set by them would be paved roads; otherwise they said that nothing interests them, because they can handle everything“, said Ion Gârniceanu, the mayor of Jupănești.

Pushed from behind by foreigners, the local authorities of Jupănești commune say that they are now working on the cadastre of the locality and hope to find funds at some point to pave the two roads, because the landowners here are waiting to sell their land or why not to invest after the villages will be reborn by foreigners.
