The President of the Democratic Forum of Germans in Romania announces that he has “followed the recent evolution of the situation at the Goethe German College in Bucharest”, that he has “acknowledged the open letter of the teachers addressed to the President of Romania and the Minister of Education and we take their concerns seriously “. In a response to Edupedu.ro’s request, Paul-Jurgen Porr, president of FDGR, says that “the change of the status of the Goethe German College, in the sense of changing the current status of an educational unit with teaching in the language of the German minority, is not a topic of discussion.”

  • We remind you that the teachers of the Goethe German College in Bucharest publicly asked the support of the president Klaus Iohannis, after a series of resignations of the Control Body of the Minister of Education Ligia Deca, which led to the resignation of the three directors. In a letter-manifesto, the teaching staff conveyed to the leader from Cotroceni that teachers have less and less rights in front of parents and that the decency of the teaching staff is often confused with the acceptance of abuse
  • According to Edupedu.ro sources, among the questions asked by the team of inspectors sent by the Ministry of Education to the Goethe College in Bucharest were some that questioned whether the status of a school teaching German as a mother tongue at Goethe is justified. Abandoning the minority school status would lead to the elimination of teaching in German for subjects other than the German language, with effects on the language level obtained by students at the end of school and which would benefit private schools with German language teaching

The President of the Democratic Forum of Germans in Romania (FDGR), Paul-Jurgen Porr, told Edupedu.ro that “within the FDGR, the change in the status of the German Goethe College was not discussed and is not a topic of discussion, in the sense of changing the current status of an educational unit with teaching in the language of the German minority; on the contrary, we support the maintenance of a higher quality level of this college with tradition“.

According to the Framework Statute, FDGR, through the Education Commission, “supports education in the German mother tongue”, as a result FDGR supports the teaching of German as a mother tongue by all specific means not only at the Goethe College in Bucharest, but at all schools teaching in the language of the German minority in the country“, states the response of the FDGR president to Edupedu.ro’s request.
