The Gorj Environmental Protection Agency makes another migration passage for fish on the Gilort river. The value of the investment is over two million lei.

The passage will be built in the town of Albeni, in the Natura 2000 site, on the Gilort river, and is part of a larger project financed with European funds.

In total, this passage amounts to 2.3 million lei.

“The work would allow the restoration, within the Gilort River Natura 2000 site, of fish populations as well as the return of some extinct species, all of which have the effect of both increasing biological diversity in the site and diversifying the food available for the Lutra lutra species, with positive effects both on it as well as on the species of ichthyofauna of community importance that will be less hunted and consumed by otters due to the existence of a diversified trophic offer”, the APM Gorj announcement states.

Several such works have been done in the last months in the river bed and on the bank so that the area is ecologically rebuilt and more fish species do not disappear permanently upstream due to man-made constructions and floods. The works are unique in the country, and this is a pilot project.
