Dan Ilie Morega was discharged from Psychiatry. The former prefect of Gorj was hospitalized last week, after assaulting a journalist. The judges decided that he should remain under house arrest.

The former prefect of Gorj was admitted to the Psychiatry ward. On March 22, he called the ambulance after the police came to question him for assaulting a journalist. Thus, Dan Ilie Morega was hospitalized. At the same time, the prosecutors requested his preventive arrest.

In recent months, he has been spotted several times behind the wheel, although he no longer has a driver’s license. Thus, he was caught driving without documents four times in Gorj County, once in Mehedinţi County and once in Bucharest.

“The police filed 7 criminal cases against Mr. Morega. When you talk about the criminal case, another institution already enters the scene, which is called the Prosecutor’s Office and another, the Court of Justice. Probably, when these criminal files entered the justice system, they were not processed quickly enough,” stated Minister Cătălin Predoiu.

Dan Ilie Morega remains under house arrest

The former prefect received the news that he remains under house arrest while in the hospital. It is not the first time that he arrives at Psychiatry. At the end of February, he was hospitalized in the department for an examination to determine if he can still drive vehicles.

Doctors then decided to administer drug treatment.

“I don’t take them, but after a month I assure you I will drive,” Morega said after discharge, referring to the drugs.

At the same time, the doctors recommended that he be permanently accompanied by a person and that he be psychiatrically evaluated often.

Although he contested the house arrest decision, the judges rejected his request.

The court rejected the appeal filed by the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Bucharest District Court 1.

“Type of solution: as unfounded Pursuant to art. 4251 para. 7 point 1 lit. b C.pr.pen. rap. to art. 204 C.pr.pen. rejects, as unfounded, the appeal filed by the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the 1st District Court of Bucharest against the conclusion dated 23.03.2024 of the judge of rights and liberties of the 1st District Court of Bucharest, issued in file no. 8532/299/2024. Pursuant to art. 4251 para. 7 point 2 lit. of C.pr.pen. rap. to art. 204 admits, in part, the appeal filed by the defendant Morega Dan Ilie against the conclusion dated 23.03.2024 of the judge of rights and freedoms within the District Court of Bucharest 1, pronounced in file no. 8532/299/2024 and in retrial: Based on art. 221 para. 1 C.proc.pen., imposes on the defendant the obligation not to leave the residence in Or. .., without the permission of the judicial body that ordered the measure or in front of which the case is pending,” the judges say.
