A new shipment of humanitarian products and military equipment left Romania for the Gaza Strip, ISU announced. The value of the aid amounts to 8.2 million lei (3,280,000 leva).

“Romania continues to allocate humanitarian aid to the civilian population of the Gaza Strip. On Monday morning, a new shipment was sent with food products and military equipment – tents, sleeping bags, beds, etc., made available by the National Administration of State Reserves and Special Issues”, informed the Government Press Office Romania, transmits BTA from Sofia.

According to the cited source, the decision was taken by the National Committee for Special Emergency Situations, led by Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.

Transport is carried out through national resources to a special center created by the European Union Commission in Cyprus. Later, through the European Mechanism for Civil Protection, humanitarian aid is transported between Cyprus and the Gaza Strip with the help of special UN agencies.

The war between Israel and Hamas began after an unprecedented attack in southern Israel on October 7, in which Hamas fighters killed around 1,200 people, most of them civilians, but took as hostages and about 250 people. Israel says the group is holding another 100 people captive, as well as the bodies of more than 30 dead. More than 34,000 Palestinians have been killed since the start of the war, and two-thirds of them are women and children, according to data from local health authorities. The Gaza Strip is devastated, and food shortages are leading to fears of mass starvation.
