Five people died after being hit by wind-blown trees, according to Reuters. In the town of Rabka-Zdroj, two adults and a child died after a tree crushed them, the fire department said. In Zakopane, a popular resort in the Tatra Mountains, a 23-year-old woman and a nine-year-old boy died in similar circumstances.
Strong wind in Poland
Firefighters had 140 interventions on Monday morning to remove the trees blocking the roads and to help the owners of houses with destroyed roofs, reported the local press, according to news.ro.
The gusts followed three days of unseasonably warm weather. On March 30, temperatures reached a new historical record for the month, reaching 26.4 degrees Celsius in the southern city of Tarnow, according to state news agency PAP.
Similar weather conditions – strong wind that follows unusually warm days – are also forecast for Romania in the following days.
