The authorities claim that the mess on the water’s surface will be cleaned, but there is an even more serious problem. The dam bed is clogged, and in case of heavy rains, the river could flood everything around.

Local people are used to the reservoir on Olt looking like a garbage dump year after year. Most anglers look away from the dam when they come to the lake to relax. Waste is not only an environmental problem, but also a public health problem. The fish caught here ingests plastic particles, which can later end up in the human body.

“It looks like this for several years, because no one takes care of this lake. We pay tax, let’s fish, but it confuses us”, says a man. The sea of ​​trash on the water’s surface hides much bigger problems in the depths. The bed of the reservoir is clogged for more than three quarters, and this fact means that the dam can no longer mitigate possible flood waves, on Olt.

“At a given moment, everything that means the areas around the Olt river can be flooded. There is a large amount of waste, mainly due to the degree of clogging of everything that means the water level of this dam. The Hidroelectrica Company, the one that manages the dam the initiative has already started to rehabilitate and fill everything that means this water shine of Olt”, said Cătălin Văsii, prefect of Braşov.
