Former footballer Mihai Neșu, who in recent years has dedicated himself to helping other people with health problems, reveals in an interview given to Antena Stars television that he was the one who made the decision to divorce his wife, Maria, in 2012, not in long after the terrible training incident that paralyzed him.

Mihai Neșu (41 years old) says he wants people to know this, because for a long time they blamed his ex-wife, speculating that she had left him.

“Actually, the reality is that I decided to divorce her in case of illness. It was my decision. People blamed her a lot, because people can’t understand (…) I realized that it was a very big shock for her too (…) She never liked to appear on TV and most things were exaggerated. He was with me at the hospital as well. I want the world to know that it did not happen as it was written”said Mihai Neșu at Star Matinal, quoted by Gsp.ro.

The two got married in 2006 and divorced after six years, a few months after Mihai Neșu suffered a terrible injury during a training session of his team, FC Utrecht.

In the same interview, Mihai Neșu said that before the incident changed his life he was not a very faithful man, and he regrets it. “Before the accident, I was a boy eager to become the best footballer I could be. There was nothing wrong. The only reproach, the only regret, is the fact that I did not look for the closeness to God like now, to look in the morning to take care of God, of the soul,” he said.

The former footballer also spoke about the people he now has around him. “I have a very large team and many people around me (…) My sister takes care of me at home, the director of the foundation, my personal assistant, my nurses who have been with me for ten years. They are the people I see every day, they are my family, but a lot of people are with me and I am grateful to them,” he said.

As the Bihor he also wrote, Mihai Neşu’s foundation still needs financial support to build the recovery complex for children with disabilities “Saint Nectarie”, near Oradea, made entirely from donations. The works are in an advanced state.
