Eurostat data show what life expectancy is in the countries of the European Union and where Romania ranks in the ranking.
According to the latest data from the EU statistics agency, Eurostat, Romania has the third lowest life expectancy in the EU, at 76.6 years.
In first place is Spain, which has the highest life expectancy at 84 years.
In total, 15 of the 27 EU member countries exceed the EU average for life expectancy (81.5 years).
The preliminary data, showing that Spain is in first place in terms of life expectancy, was collected at the end of 2023. After Spain, Italy (83.8 years) and Malta (83.6 years) dominate the top places of the ranking.

In 2019, the highest increase in life expectancy was recorded in Romania, the increase in life expectancy was one year, followed by Lithuania (+0.8 years) and Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Luxembourg and Malta (all with an increase of +0.7 years).
