Elena Popescu, teacher and man of letters, passed away.

The announcement was made today by professor Sorin Mazilescu, on the official Facebook page.

Elena Popescu was a teacher at the “Carol I” National Pedagogical College from Câmpulung Muscel and an unforgettable presence in the educational journey of many students.

Much loved and appreciated by entire generations of children who passed through her hand, the teacher always urged the students to be aware of their own worth.

Professor Mazilescu also posted an emotional message from the 13th B class, the 1996 graduation of the college, as a tribute to the one who was their leader.

“Goodbye, lady director!

…I am writing these lines as a final tribute to a special person in our life, the conductor lady, the being who guided our steps for five years of our life as normalists.

Our distinguished director, Prof. Elena Popescu, OM of letters, a graduate of the 6-year Pedagogical School (class of 1963), as the “Carol I” National Pedagogical College from Câmpulungul Muscelului was then called, was the one who it instilled a sense of responsibility and duty, to have respect for the communities in which we were to operate.

He firmly believed in the perceptual formulated by Comenius: “The function of a teacher is the highest under the sun”, which we hope we have proved its validity through our performance in the department.

We, the class of 1996, of the “Carol I” Normal School, pay our respects to her for her consistency, because she remained faithful to a noble cause, knowing that the duty of her lordship is sacred, that GOD entrusted her with the mission of perfecting the human being, the only one left to be fulfilled by itself and with the help of the chosen man called TEACHER, like HIM.

He valued all of us who perfected their specialized training, climbing higher didactic steps, becoming professors, university teaching staff or receiving significant responsibilities in education or other fields.

Fragments of apparently unsystematized thoughts about the headmistress come to my mind now, funny incidents but full of substance, through which I try to create an image of the collective character that was our class, a class that with such joy coordinate it.

It was my duty, as the head of the class for five years, to record in a few words qualities, experiences, moments related to the CEA that took care of our becoming responsible people, dedicated to our chosen profession.

Although the passage of time will, unfortunately, gradually erase the image of the Man who was, the deeds and achievements of his reign remain or should remain in the memory of all those who knew him.

I conclude with his lordship’s exhortation to be aware of one’s own value, but also the attempt to convince ourselves that there is the proverbial hidden precious stone in each of us, and if we work hard to bring it to the surface, the future will be ours and we will be able to shape it – a fulfilled destiny.

Eternal rest, lady conductor!
