The future Polish presidency of the Council of the European Union, a position that will be secured in the first half of 2025, will focus on strengthening cooperation with the USA and Ukraine, the president of Poland, Andrzej Duda, announced on Wednesday, reports DPA, according to Agerpres.

“We should organize two European summits in Poland to highlight the most important elements of Europe’s development for the future,” Duda said in a speech to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Poland’s accession to the EU.

He specified that the first summit would focus on relations between the EU and the US, and the second would be dedicated to the reconstruction of Ukraine, a country attacked by Russia unjustifiably and unprovoked in February 2022.

A staunch supporter of Kiev, Poland wants to see progress in Ukraine’s EU accession process.

Andrzej Duda is close to the Law and Justice Party (PiS), which led the Polish government until last year’s elections. The centrist Donald Tusk, former president of the European Council, became prime minister in December.

On 1 May 2004, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovenia, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Malta and Cyprus joined the European Union.

“Our presence in the EU has contributed to the dynamic development of Poland in the last 20 years in a way that cannot be overestimated,” said Duda, quoted by the PAP news agency.
