And maybe those who caught those times and not only, it would have been a little better.

In the period 1965-1989, two rural localities in Romania became the most important settlements on the territory of the country. Scornicești from Olt county and Petrești, from Dâmbovița county. The first place was the one where Comrade Nicolae Ceaușescu saw the light of day, “the most beloved son of the people”. Qbefore 1989. And in the second commune, his life partner Elena Ceaușescu was born. But if what was prepared by the old leader of the Romanian People’s Republic, Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej, had happened, the events in our country would have been different. Everyone knows that Dej had a special sympathy for a citizen born a stone’s throw from our current county, in Tudor Vladimirescu commune in Galați county. This was the well-known Gheorghe Apostol, the one who survived Ceaușescu by more than two decades. So perhaps he was more earned in that regard than the dictator. But at the death of Dej, Gheorghe Apostol was the most deceived Romanian of that moment. Three days before Dej closed his eyes, Gheorghe Apostol met with two or three comrades from the Political Bureau (the most important decision-making body at that time) of the Romanian Communist Party. And when they proposed to Apostol to accept to be the next leader of the country, he hesitated and made his first mistake. He agreed on the condition that this be decided in the Central Committee of the Romanian Communist Party (the supreme governing body of the country). A day later he had another discussion with some of the Politburo comrades. Then he realized that he had to be more decisive and announced that he would be ready to take over Dej’s duties. But one of his colleagues, Alexandru Drăghici, was of the opinion that this should not be done, yet, until he will not close his eyes Dej. Just so that it will not be said in the country that they shamelessly took away the power of a dying man. And the Apostle agreed. Second mistake! After Dej died, they met again, but when they discussed the succession to power, Maurer and Ceaușescu, seconded by Chivu Stoica and Alexandru Drăghici, argued that there was no time for such a thing, having to deal with the funeral first to Dej and the foreign delegations. And Apostol gave in once more! And when everything calmed down and the issue of appointing the new leader was raised, the majority of those who could decide this announced that Nicolae Ceaușescu and not Gheorghe Apostol would be the chosen one. Without any other explanations, to the amazement of the most unlucky Romanian of all time, Gheorghe Apostol ! He would have consoled him with the chosen lifestyle he was leading and especially with his beautiful wife, Adriana Codreanu-Apostol, originally from our county. That’s right, when Adriana was born, 90 years ago, in Străoane, the old county was called Putna and stretched from Parava in Bacău county to Golești and from Greșu to Siret. This administrative-territorial entity lasted, as an organizational form, for about 500 years compared to the current Vrancea county, which barely exceeded, in terms of duration, 50 years.

So, comrade Adriana Codreanu-Apostol was born in the town of Străoane, in 1934. She was the daughter of Ciocârlan Valeriu, originally from Botoșanilor area, Mihălășeni commune, arrived in our beautiful town, most certainly, through a marriage. With Tatiana Popa. The people of Straonen probably know these old families better, but let’s see what we can find in the documents of the National Archives in relation to them. It should be mentioned that Ciocârlan Valeriu was very hardworking, evidenced by the land he owned and managed which ensured the existence of his family, but which brought them to package and a placement in the group “select” of the “chiabs”, i.e. of those who “they sucked the blood of the people, exploiting them mercilessly“, to agricultural work. He not only owned land, but also applied for a license to manufacture brandy in 1939. A good thing for his family’s business, but also totally inappropriate, later, in the eyes of the communist authorities. Being declared, after 1950, and “. speculative trader”. During the World War he was employed as a teacher in Străoane, then from 1945 he was transferred to the school in Neicu. So he also had a reliable source of income, namely the teacher’s salary. If he was also a priest, as mentioned in the interview with Gheorghe Apostol, attached, that could not be detected.

Instead, for the accusation that he was a legionnaire sympathizer, he found himself in 1958 with a three-year sentence in the Periprava labor camp, during the time of the torturer Ion Ficior. See, if desired, the following electronic page –

Well, this father’s drama certainly contributed to the love relationship between Adriana and Gheorghe Apostol. He, after two divorces and she, certainly, from another. Or he had lost his first husband, from whom he persistently kept the name Codreanu, even to the detriment of the family name, Ciocârlan. During the terrible and frightening investigations to which his father was subjected, since around 1952 , which culminated in the abusive arrest in 1958 and subsequent conviction in 1960, Adriana lived a decade of terror. He struggled terribly to find an escape solution for his father who, in addition to the fact that he could be sentenced to life imprisonment, could also die in the camp, like so many other Romanians. Among all the powerful characters of those times, the eyes and the heart chose the promising Gheorghe Apostol. It is possible that this one. to have played a benefactor role on the future father-in-law, the sentence he received being only three years, completed in 1961.

A year later, the ballerina and soprano, Adriana Codreanu, calm as far as her father was concerned, accepted Gheorghe Apostol as her husband. And they lived together and probably happily, for almost half a century. But the past of Adriana’s family weighed heavily on Gheorghe Apostol’s political career. That and the profession of singer, which attracted Elena Ceaușescu’s dislike. The unhealthy origin of the father-in-law and his criminal record were determining factors for the members of the Centra Committee. In order to gradually exclude Gheorghe Apostol from all levels of power from the Communist Party and from the leadership of the Romanian state. It all started, let’s say, with the loss of primacy in the party, upon the death of Dej. Then, the removal from the Political Bureau and the Central Committee of the Romanian Communist Party. And so on, until he was sent ambassador through South America. Precisely so that he would no longer appear in front of the Ceaușescu family, fearing that perhaps Gheorghe Apostol would reclaim his supreme position, stolen by the ambitious Nicolae, seconded by his lifelong companion Elena. Those who, like a curse, they fell from the height of glory in 1989 and died, as they should not have, like dogs in the military shooting range in Târgoviște. And on top of that, they chose the names of “Sinistra” and “Sinistrul”.

Returning to Gheorghe Apostol, he lived until 2010, and Adriana died in 2020. How well it would have been with them leading the country, we will never know! It probably wouldn’t have been heaven on earth. Gheorghe Apostol declaring himself an atheist and probably being quite strict with church things and not only that. On the other hand, the artist Adriana would have been far from the malicious, hypocritical and lying behavior of “academician” Elena Ceaușescu. If only because Adriana was born and lived here, in Vrancea. And it is known throughout the country that, from the beginning of history until now, the people of Vrancea have been and are the most righteous of Romanians. And this can be confirmed by many people.
