Romania attracted the attention of NASA and the whole world thanks to some spectacular images captured by satellites over the south of the country. There, the blossoming rapeseed fields offer a fairytale landscape, beckoning and awe-inspiring.

On April 12, a satellite recorded amazing images above the area where the Olt River meets the Danube. The canola plant, in full bloom, transformed the landscape into a vast field of gold, a fact that quickly attracted the attention of NASA. According to the US Embassy in Bucharest, these photos circulated extensively on the Internet, under the title “Gold Fields from Romania”, being viewed by thousands of people.

Romania contributes significantly to the production of cereals and oilseeds in the European Union

Our country contributes significantly to the production of grains and oilseeds of the European Union, representing about 10% of the total, according to the International Trade Commission. Rapeseed, in particular, plays a major role in this agricultural landscape, being not only a crop of economic importance, but also one that supports biodiversity and protects the soil.

This plant is part of the cruciferous family and is cultivated for its oil-rich seeds. In addition to economic benefits, canola has a positive impact on the environment, contributing to the improvement of biodiversity and soil protection.

Bee heaven

During the flowering period, rapeseed fields turn into veritable seas of yellow flowers, which not only delight the eye, but also attract bees and other pollinating insects. The latter play a crucial role in maintaining the ecological balance of agricultural ecosystems.

Rapeseed is an important source of raw materials for the food industry and beyond. Valued for its nutritional properties, rapeseed oil is used in a wide range of products, from cooking oil to cosmetics and biodiesel.
