Fodor would have wanted Tischer at the helm of Sibiu. “I was firmly decided to withdraw, but he did not want to run” (video)

--

Astrid Fodor announced, a few years ago, that she would no longer run for a new mandate at Sibiu City Hall. I then proposed Gabriel Tischer, president of FDGR Sibiu, for this position. However, he did not want to run, which is why Fodor reanalyzed things and decided to re-enter the race for the mayor’s seat.

In March 2021, Astrid Fodor announced that she was preparing her exit from the political and administrative scene, firmly saying that she would no longer run for a new mandate. Three years later, the Democratic Forum of Germans in Romania (FDGR) announced its candidates for the local elections, with Fodor being chosen to re-enter the mayoral race.

Three years ago, Astrid Fodor said that Gabriel Tischer, the president of FDGR Sibiu, would be the most suitable for the position of mayor. There were discussions about this within the party, but he did not want to run. For several months, Fodor analyzed the decision and came to the conclusion that she must run in order to complete the projects she started.

“In the 2020 election campaign, I realized that a candidate was emerging who, from my point of view, would have been suitable to take over the baton. I don’t hide it, it was Mr. Tischer’s person. I was more than convinced that Mr. Gabriel Tischer would run, we had a few discussions. I was firmly decided to withdraw under these conditions and I thought it was good to make a public statement so that whoever is going to run knows that he has a clear channel and that I am with him, that I will not oppose him. I was notified last summer by Mr. Tischer that he would not run. We had a discussion where I maintained my point of view, thinking he had changed his mind. There were other rounds of talks with the leadership of the Forum and I asked for a period of thinking to deeply analyze whether it is a good decision or I am taking it expediently. I came to the conclusion in February that it is a good decision, it is not a conjunctural decision. I have analyzed the reasons why I must continue this mandate. Not under pressure, but because I started wanting it. I had to be convinced that I could complete what I set out to do,” explained Astrid Fodor.
