Gianina van Groningen and Ionela Cozmiuc won the gold medal in the women’s double rowing event at the European Rowing Championships.

The performance of the Romanians crowned the other results of the Romanian athletes who participated in the competition.

On the third day of European Rowing Championships, which are held in Hungary, in SzegedRomania won several medals, including a gold one.

Gianina van Groningen and Ionela Cozmiuc won the gold medal on Saturday. The Romanians finished the race with a time of 07:29.63. The podium was completed by Greece, with a time of 07:31.94, and Italy, who finished the event in 07:33.73.

Before the performance achieved by the two, Mădălina Bereș, Maria Lehaci, Magdalena Rusu and Amalia Bereș won the silver medal in the four-frame event. The Romanian team was surpassed only by that of Great Britain.

Also, the men’s rowing team 8 plus 1, formed by Mihăiță Țigănescu, Ciprian Tudosă, Florin Arteni, Mugurel Semciuc, Constantin Adam, Sergiu Bejan, Ștefan, Berariu. Florin Lehaci, Adrian Munteanu, managed to get the bronze, after placing 3rd in the final. The national lot was surpassed only by Great Britain and Germany.

The two rowers, with the Olympic Games in mind

The performance achieved by Gianina van Groningen and Ionela Cozmiuc was highly anticipated by the two. The latter confessed that the desire to win gold at the European Championships has been in her mind for a long time. Now the rower is in high spirits and focuses on the Paris Olympicswhich will take place this summer.

“We are very happy, we wanted this medal for a long time, I, at least, won the first European junior championship and since then I have some experience behind me, I am glad that we finally managed to win it and have it in our record.

We are returning home very motivated for the preparation leading to the Olympic Games in Paris”, said Ionela Cozmiuc, according to GSP.

At the previous edition of the Olympic Games, Romania’s rowing team obtained three of Romania’s four medals and the only gold one. Romania’s best performance was achieved by Simona Radiș and Ancuța Bodnar in the double rowing event.
