He wants to place TESLA batteries in Gorj. “It is an investment valued at over 80 million euros” – GorjOnline

The prefect of Gorj county, Iulian Popescu, held discussions, the other day, with an investor from Croatia about the possibility of opening a new business in Gorj. The company that the businessman represents develops, throughout ex-Yugoslavia, projects for storing energy in batteries, which in turn allow the implementation of many renewable projects. The representative of the government in the territory states that, from the discussions they had, the investor would have decided to open a business in the county, because he saw a lot of potential due to the existing industrial infrastructure. The investment is valued at over 80 million euros, with an installed capacity of over 100 megawatts.

“As I had the discussion with him, it is almost certain that he will come, he has found a very good industrial infrastructure for his business model. I would like to mention that this recommendation came from the general directorate for Romania of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the EBRD having invested in this company in Croatia and they proposed to develop at regional level a network of batteries to support compensation electricity when there are either shortages or overloading of energy capacities. Such batteries go hand in hand and are especially necessary when discussing large renewable energy production projects on photovoltaic panels, solar energy and wind energy. This means that if, in Gorj, we have such an investment, the investments in photovoltaic panels that are being made become even more profitable. The batteries are made, they are Tesla, they work with Tesla, they are an American company, they place large battery infrastructures that accumulate electricity at peak times and hand it back to the national energy system when there is a shortage of electricity. They are very important in compensating for variations in electricity generated by renewable resources. It is an investment valued at over 80 million euros with an installed power of over 100 megawatts”, concluded Iulian Popescu. The prefect of Gorj claims that the investor requested land that is near the connection points to the electrical infrastructure. The businessman would have identified the necessary surfaces that are located in the vicinity of the Rovinari and Turceni thermal power plants within the Oltenia Complex, but also in Târgu-Jiu.
