An autistic boy who is mainly non-verbal has vanished while he was out on Rivington Pike, Lancashire.

Wearing a black coat that says ‘adventure’ on it, James was last seen on the 363-metre-high hill about a mile northeast of Horwich.

Rivington Pike is well-known among locals as a go-to hiking spot, with the summit offering a view of the West Pennine Moors.

James, whose age has not been given, is described as being four feet, of average build and with blonde hair.

Police say he is non-verbal, which is also called non-speaking autism.

This means James may not speak or can only say a few words.

An autistic person who is nonspeaking may also understand words that are spoken to them and be able to use words in other ways, such as writing.

Anyone who sees James or has information should call 999.

Sharing two photographs of the youngster, the police said: ‘This is James. He is currently missing from home and we are really concerned for his welfare, so are now asking the public for help.

‘James was last seen at Rivington Pike, at 12.30pm on April 28. When he was last seen, he was wearing a black helmet with blue and white stripes, a black coat that says adventure on the sleeve and blue sports trousers.

‘He is described as 4′, of average build with blonde hair. Please be aware that James is autistic and is mainly non-verbal.’
