PHOTO-VIDEO: The ritual of “Washing the Feet” on Maundy Thursday, at the Roman Catholic Cathedral in Alba Iulia

--

One of the moments from the Last Supper, when the Savior Jesus Christ washed the feet of the apostles, was reproduced on Maundy Thursday at the Roman Catholic Cathedral “Saint Michael” in Alba Iulia.

The ritual represents a lesson in humility, symbolizing the washing away of sins and, in particular, the renunciation of arrogance and pride.

This year, the ritual took place around 19:30, during the Liturgy of the Last Supper.

According to custom, the eldest washed the feet of the youngest, as the Savior did. This order, although it is present in the service books, was not mandatory.

At the Roman Catholic Cathedral “St. Mihail” from Alba Iulia, this ritual was preserved annually, on Maundy Thursday, when, in addition to the “washing of the feet”, the Last Supper is also celebrated.

Then the Savior washed the disciples’ feet and commanded them: “Love one another as I have loved you. By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another”.

In recent years, following the example of the Savior, the Archbishop of Alba Iulia humbly washed the feet of young theology students.
