This week, the police officers from Crime Prevention, in collaboration with the Focșani Penitentiary, organized meetings during which approximately 160 students had the opportunity to talk with prisoners who have managed to rehabilitate or are in the process of rehabilitation, both socially as well as from a legal point of view.

The crime prevention structure of the Vrancea County Police Inspectorate, in partnership with the Focșani Penitentiary, organized a series of interactive meetings within the “BEYOND APPEARANCES” Project.

Initiated at the beginning of April by the Vrancea County Police Inspectorate, in partnership with the Vrancea County School Inspectorate, the Vrancea Anti-Drug Prevention, Evaluation and Counseling Center and the Focșani Penitentiary, the project aims to inform and raise awareness among teenagers about the risk situations that lead when committing antisocial acts.

They say that in youth we learn, and as we grow older, we understand!

During the meetings, the students from the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” National College from Focșani and the Ioan Cuza Theoretical High School from Panciu learned the life stories of people deprived of their liberty, convicted for committing crimes in the sphere of organized crime: drug trafficking, drug trafficking minors through the Loverboy method, but also for economic crimes and traffic offenses, to which young people are vulnerable. The students also received information about the detention regimes and the activities carried out for their social reintegration.

The living books ” were the people serving custodial sentences, who were willing to share their experience with young people, to help them see the temptations, but especially the risks of certain behaviors or choices at the limit of legality.

What happens after a prison sentence? What happens after the cell doors close? What turn does life take after a conviction? What, in fact, are the real consequences? – there were questions to which the young people received answers, in order to NOT get into such situations.

Many times people’s life stories can be life lessons for young people, lessons we want them to learn from the experiences of others, NOT on their own.

Also, the people deprived of their liberty have also revealed plans for when they will be released again.

The activity had the purpose of promoting in the pre-university environment in particular, but also at the level of the civil community, the standardized approaches applied in the recuperative intervention of persons serving custodial sanctions.

Such activities will take place within the project until June of this year.
