The unemployment rate in Romania increased to 3.14% in March 2024

The unemployment rate recorded at the national level reached 3.14% at the end of March 2024, up from 3.06% as recorded in the previous month, according to data provided by the National Employment Agency (ANOFM).

At the end of March 2024, the total number of unemployed people was 252,588, of which 54,864 were unemployed with benefits, and 197,724 without benefits. Compared to the previous month, the number of unemployed people with benefits decreased by 1,840 people, while the number of unemployed people without benefits increased by 7,727 people.

From the perspective of the residence environment, at the end of March, the number of unemployed was distributed as follows: 69,664 unemployed come from the urban environment and 182,924 from the rural environment.

On March 31, 2024, the number of unemployed females was 118,939, while the number of unemployed males was 133,649.

The age group with the largest number of unemployed was between 40 and 49 years old, with a total of 65,241 people, followed by the over 55 age group, with 55,308 people. At the opposite pole, there are people between 25 and 29 years old, with a number of 15,359 unemployed.

Regarding the structure of unemployment according to the level of training, the unemployed without education and those with primary training level represent a significant share in the total number of unemployed registered in the ANOFM records (30.60%). The unemployed with secondary education level represent 34.52% of the total number of registered unemployed, while those with university education register a share of 4.68%.
