One of the most awaited moments for Bihor drivers, the opening of the new road connecting the Oradea Belt to the Transilvania Motorway, took place on Thursday afternoon.
The first cars entered the 19 kilometers of expressway at 3 p.m. sharp, with Traffic Police cars preceding them.
The moment was broadcast live on the Facebook page of the Minister of Transport, Sorin Grindeanu (video below).
“The DEx16 (Oradea-A3 ring road), Bihor county, is running from today! This 19 km long road practically ensures the connection between the Municipality of Oradea and the Transilvania Motorway (Biharia). The contract worth 546 million lei (without VAT) was financed by POIM. The Oradea-A3 Expressway will be added in the coming years to the Via Carpatia high-speed road connection, which will connect northern and southern Europe. At the moment, the contract for the construction of a new section of 121 km that will transit Romania (the Arad – Oradea express road) is in the tender procedure”, Grindeanu wrote on Facebook.
In the filmed images, you can see how, at 3 p.m., hundreds of cars were waiting to enter the road, in Calea Aradului, being stopped only by the crews of the Strabag constructor and the Traffic Police, who prohibited access to the road until the appointed time.
Some drivers welcomed the opening of the new road by honking and flashing their headlights.
The 19 km of Drum Expres were opened without ribbon cutting.
However, an official inauguration took place last week, when Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu and his predecessor, Nicolae Ciucă, arrived in Bihor and inspected the works, together with the current Minister of Transport Sorin Grindeanu and former Minister Lucian Bode.
