For the more than 9,000 employees of CE Oltenia, no social protection package has been established to date, although the deadlines for closing the company’s capacities are set for January 1, 2026.
If the heads of the Oltenia Energy Complex will plan layoffs this year, the leaders of the union organizations will ask for a social protection package. The amount of compensatory payments that will be requested for the miners and energy workers who will be fired, as circulated among the trade unions, is 20,000 euros and supplementary income for four years. It is likely that if these collective layoffs do not take place this year, in which there will be several rounds of elections, the dates and figures will change in 2025. In 2026, all the coal-fired power capacities of the Oltenia Energy Complex will be passed in reserve, in case the future MEPs and the government do not open negotiations at the European Commission, after the elections in June, to postpone the elimination of coal and, implicitly, the closing of the CEO units.
