The police and forensic doctors were requested, Thursday morning, in a commune in Botoșani County after a gruesome discovery right next to a police station.
An 86-year-old man was found charred in his own home. The tragedy happened near the police station in Păltiniș, where the old man’s household is. The alarm was given on Thursday, at 8 am, by a neighbor of the old man, who realized that smoke was coming out of the annex of the house.
Panicked, the woman called the head of the Voluntary Service for Emergency Situations (SVSU) in the commune. He moved to the scene and intervened to limit the disaster. “We were notified by the person’s neighbor. When I arrived, the walls of the annex, which were made of clapboard, were still burning, isolated. The annex was completely collapsed. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for the owner”stated Florin Ciobanu, head of the SVSU of Păltiniș commune.
According to neighbors, the old man lived alone and had problems getting around. Forensic police officers and medical examiners were called to the scene, and the exact cause of death will be determined.
Apparently, the fire was caused by a spark brought by the strong wind that night. The brick walls immediately ignited, and the old man didn’t stand a chance.
