Ilie Bolojan announces that sections of the Arad – Oradea expressway are in the tender: the works could actually start in the fall

On Friday, March 22, the tender was launched for Lot 2 of the Arad – Oradea expressway, a 39.7 kilometer section between Salonta (Bihor) and Chișinău Criș (Arad). The 10-kilometer sector between Salonta and the border with Hungary is included in the same awarding procedure.

The estimated value of the works is 3.4 billion lei, without VAT, the deadline for submitting offers being May 9.

“Estimating a 4-5 month bid evaluation period, if there are no appeals, the works could actually start in the fall“, said Ilie Bolojan, the president of the Bihor County Council.

Tenders for lots 1 and 2 were published on 23 February, with a deadline for submission of offers on 11 May. Lot 1 is between Oradea and Salonta, a section of 33.7 km, to which is added the connection between DN 79 and Salonta, of approximately 5 km. Lot 3 has a length of 47 km and is between Chișinău Criş and Arad. The connecting road with the Arad West industrial area, 2.9 km long, is added to this section.

“The contracts for the construction of the 3 lots of this high-speed road have a total estimated value of 8.5 billion lei, excluding VAT. The duration of the execution contract is 84 months, of which 24 months represent the actual works, and 60 months the warranty period“, stated Adrian Foghis, secretary of state in the Ministry of Transport.

The Arad – Oradea express road will be 120.1 km long, with four traffic lanes, to which are added the connections with the main cities on the route. In Bihor county, the project foresees three important junctions: the Oradea road junction, the 5 km connecting road with the city of Salonta (Bihor county), and the connecting road with the border crossing point with Hungary (Salonta – Békéscsaba), of 9.85 km.

The Arad – Oradea expressway will be connected to the Transilvania Highway connection road, which will be opened to traffic this week.

The works are financed from European funds, through the Transport Program 2021-2027, and from the state budget, according to the public investment programs approved by law.

The project is carried out through the partnership between Bihor County Council, Arad County Council, Oradea City Hall, Arad City Hall, the National Road Infrastructure Administration Company (CNAIR) and the Ministry of Transport.
