Most of the Romanians who answered the question: “Do you regret returning home?” they claimed that, in fact, the standard of living in the Western countries where they lived has deteriorated a lot, a fact that makes them have no regrets, although, they say, the situation is not perfect in Romania either.

Romanians who want to return to the country after many years spent in the West have a big dilemma. Will they regret the decision made or not? This is why they ask returnees about their experiences.

“Is there anyone who returned to Romania and regrets it? If so, why?“- asked Daniela on the “Homecoming Group” on Facebook.

Cornelia says that the country has developed a lot, but not the population, and especially the political class.

“We come back every year, for the children, but also for the parents. I hope to return after the children enter college, in a maximum of six years. But the husband does not want. Romania has developed FFF a lot in recent years. But not its population and especially the political class. If all those who left the country returned, those who adapted to educated societies, then this country will have a beautiful future.”

“Romania has changed for the better, but not everything is perfect”

Marius emphasized that not everything is perfect in Romania, just like in other parts.

“I think you know about what is in Romania! You know what it was like when you left! Romania it has changed VERY MUCH FOR THE BETTER. But it would be the height to say that everything is perfect. However, in other countries, I don’t think that Romanians judge too harshly the politicians there, the education system, the medical system, etc., while in our country there are many pessimistic people, who only see what is bad, they judge continuously. Come with optimism and confidence, at least that’s my advice. We go to work, we go to parties, on trips all over the country, we try to make our own lives very beautiful! We only go abroad on holidays! Success!“, answered Marius.

“Foreigners are not worth serving while our parents are nobody’s”

Alexandru believes that returning home was the best decision: “It was the wisest move of our lives. And I think it should have been done even faster. Foreigners are not worth serving while our parents are nobody’s here!”

Alexandra claims that she regretted returning home from the UK for the past two years, but has now changed her mind:

In the first two years, we regretted that we returned from the UK, everything seemed much simpler there. But now when I hear what’s happening in the NHS, when I see how prices have gone up and wages have stayed about the same, I realize I made a very good choice. From a land/real estate point of view, we could not afford in the UK what we can get in Romania, education is still better in Romania and it seems that we are also better off in terms of health. Wherever you choose, there are pluses and minuses, the important thing is to be satisfied and grateful and try to make it better.” says Alexandra.

“I come back once every four years and after 2-3 days regret hits me”

Dan claims it takes a few days for him to feel the regret: “I go back once every four years and after 2-3 days regret hits me. Good thing I get a round trip ticket. Yes, it’s not bad, because I eat some small papanas and strawberries, I make another cherry belly and I’m fine. It gives me chills when I see how often I have to stop by the currency exchange office.”

On the other hand, Daniela has an opposite reaction: “As many times as I’ve been back to Romania lately, I didn’t want to go back to Toronto. Romania is beautiful with a beautiful world (maybe they are not perfect, but they are ours). then I come back here and I want to go downtown and there are a lot of beggars and crazy people on the subway, I get downtown at Yonge and Dundas where the Eaton Center is, it’s an unbelievable gypsy .. and there many homeless sleeping and begging or drugged on the streets. After a life lived here and considering Canada my country, I realize that I have been ‘betrayed’ by this country. The sacrifices I made were far too great and I woke up to reality; I’m not going to sacrifice the rest of my life here. But it’s normal that there are doubts if I’m doing what I’m doing right. I never imagined I would move to Romania. But what is happening here is unacceptable.”

“I have nothing to regret”

Mihai claims that he has no reason to regret returning to Romania. “Beyond that, I learned to look at life from a different angle. In the country, you are not tied to a specific place, but you go where you can highlight your qualities, a fact that helps you earn better. Reasons for corruption blah blah blah, we find with duiumul, but honestly I didn’t come across any of the things brought up by some. I haven’t given up and I won’t and so far they’re all pretty good! I also greet our Romanians, those who fight with each other worse than dogs outside and around the country cry for pity, eventually they turn into the heroes of the nation!“, Mihai commented.

Cristi regrets not returning earlier: “Until 2005, life in many countries was qualitatively higher than life in Romania, although it was much more dangerous on the streets in the big cities… But from 2005, when Romania was so low that it had nowhere to go but up, Romania grew N times, and in all countries the standard of living decreased horribly, horribly, Canada, Australia and Spain were about the best countries to live in (and Switzerland, but it was only financial, there is no life there), but in the last five years even the best ones have degraded enormously and it is no longer possible to live beautifully.

He says that the freedom, standard of living and safety still found in Romania are hard to find in the world right now.

“In Romania, at least there is still a touch of joy even for those who are not ultra rich. They can’t all be good, because that would mean being one man, where there are two people there are already divided opinions and they can’t all be good anymore, but like everywhere else, it depends on each one…“, concludes Cristi.
