Context

In July 2023, images of a woman giving birth on the sidewalk, in front of the Urziceni Hospital, were published on Facebook, being shared by over one thousand five hundred people. The woman would not have been admitted to the medical unit due to a lack of places.

The patient arrived at the hospital in Urziceni around 5 o’clock and was taken over by a nurse. Since no gynecologist was on duty in the hospital, the nurses decided to call 112 to ask for an ambulance to transfer the patient to the hospital in Slobozia.

The director of the Hospital in Urziceni told Știrile Pro TV that the woman ended up giving birth on the sidewalk because her relatives did not want to wait for the ambulance that was going to take her to the hospital in Slobozia. She explained that the Urziceni hospital does not have a gynecologist because no one wants to take this position, although the town hall offers an income of 20,000 lei.

The mayor of Urziceni, Constantin Sava, had an intervention on Antena3, after the revolting incident in which a woman gave birth on the sidewalk, even though she had arrived in front of the Hospital. The Liberal mayor said that “it’s unfortunate what happened”, but that “poor her, she didn’t know her head”.
