In the context of the speculations that appeared in the public space regarding the death of agent Mihalache Bogdan, the Neamț Police provides clarifications to remove any doubt related to this unfortunate incident.

The Neamț County Police Inspectorate issued a statement through the Public Relations Department to clarify certain aspects related to the tragic death of Chief Police Officer Mihalache Bogdan.

The agent was initially assigned to the Neamț County Gendarmerie Inspectorate in 2006, and since 2017, he has been active within the Department of Public Safety and Romanian Patrol, advancing in 2022 in the professional rank due to the exemplary way of fulfilling his duties.

At the time of the tragic event, the police officer was mostly carrying out office activities and was not subject to disciplinary investigations.

He was found dead in his own home, with a gunshot wound to the head (see article HERE), a situation that immediately triggered investigations by the authorities.

The inspectorate emphasized that, in the period preceding the death, the police officer worked only 2 additional hours and benefited from a medical leave. There is also no evidence that he requested the transfer or relocation. In the context of a planned check, which did not directly target the agent, there was a discussion with the policemen of the Romanian Road Bureau, including Mihalache Bogdan, about professional aspects, without any requests for written explanations or verification documents being issued.

IPJ Neamț mentioned that additional investigations are being carried out regarding personal aspects of the agent, under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Romanian Court. Detailed information about these investigations cannot be disclosed to the public in order not to affect the integrity of the process.

Below, the Neamt Police statement:

In the context of the information that appeared in the public space in the last few days, related to the death of our colleague, in order to clarify aspects of interest related to this unfortunate event, the Neamț Public Relations Department is empowered to communicate the following:

Chief police officer Mihalache Bogdan was assigned to the MAI, at the Neamț County Gendarmerie Inspectorate, on 01.10.2006. Following the promotion of the recruitment contest from an external source, on 16.01.2017, he was assigned to the Neamț County Police Inspectorate – Department of Public Safety and Romanian Patrol.

Starting from 01.09.2020, he carried out his activity at the Romanian Road Office.

From the point of view of the professional activity, we make it clear that it was not the subject of any disciplinary investigations.

On 01.12.2022, as a sign of appreciation for the exemplary way of fulfilling his duties, he was promoted to the professional rank of chief police officer, before completing the minimum internship in the professional rank held.

In reference to the tragic event on March 18, we make the following clarifications: the police officer was scheduled to be on the 1st shift, between 06:00 and 14:00, carrying out, for the most part, office activities, respectively researching files instrumented penalties.

At 11:30 a.m., the police officer announced to his colleagues that he was leaving the headquarters of the Roman Municipality Police, going to travel in his personal car, to buy food.

At 14:00, the time of the end of the 1st shift, it was found that the agent did not hand over the weapons and ammunition from the endowment and did not return to the institution’s headquarters.

In order to identify him, he was called by his colleagues on the mobile phone, without getting an answer, the leadership of the police sub-unit ordering the movement of a police crew to his building, the wife being the one who allowed the police to access the building.

Unfortunately, our colleague had a gunshot wound to the head, and the medical team pronounced him dead.

On March 18, a thematic control was carried out at the level of the Romanian Road Bureau.

The control did not concern the policeman, who was ordered according to the plan of thematic controls from January 2024.

During the activity, he interacted with the policemen of the Romanian Road Bureau on duty, including chief agent Mihalache Bogdan, discussing professional aspects in connection with the objectives of the control, without requesting written explanations from the policemen and without drawing up verification documents.

We mention that, during the month of February, the Neam Road Service was the subject of a monitoring, the actions of all traffic policemen in Neamț County being directed to the prevention of serious road accidents, for time intervals and precisely delimited areas.

In this context, overtime was recorded by some of the police officers involved in these actions, without exceeding a reasonable average.

In the context of the recording of this tragic event, the planning of the policeman’s services for the months of January and February was checked, on which occasion it was found that, during this period, the policeman worked 2 additional hours.

Starting from 29.01.2024 and until 26.02.2024, he was on medical leave.

In the same period, he figures with 3 more days off (recovery, rest leave). As of 20.03.2024, the policeman was scheduled to be on vacation.

At the same time, the police officer did not make written requests for transfer or relocation.

In the same context, we would like to point out that there are aspects of a personal nature that are being investigated, within a criminal case instrumented under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Romanian Court. These details, for reasons related to the integrity of the ongoing investigation, cannot be released to the public.

With the above in mind, we reaffirm our commitment to preventing any extreme behavior from our employees. It is of fundamental importance for the Neamt County Police Inspectorate to maintain a professional and safe environment, in which each member can dedicate himself to the fulfillment of his duty, without obstacles of any kind.

At the level of the Neamț County Police Inspectorate, dialogue is encouraged both among colleagues and on the hierarchical line, so that any policeman can expose his problems, situations or difficulties he faces.
