Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley were photographed on the set of “The Bride”, the new film directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal. The two actors were caught performing their own stunts in Manhattan, New York City.

The 50-year-old British actor plays Frankenstein, while his co-star Jessie, 34, plays his terrifying bride.

The two stars were seen filming late at night as they scaled a building in a dramatic scene.

Christian was followed everywhere by the team of make-up artists, for touch-ups to the spectacular make-up created especially for him to take on the skin of Frankenstein. With his scarred face, Bale looked like a different person.

The cast of the film also includes Penelope Cruz, who is also present on the set.

The feature marks the reunion of actors Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley, who starred together in 2008’s The Dark Knight.

The action in the new film takes place in Chicago in the 1930s. Frankenstein asks Dr. Euphronius to help him create a companion. They thus bring to life a murdered woman, “The Bride”, sparking the interest of the police, but also radical social changes, among other things.

Before filming began, Christian spoke about his transformation for the role: “I have to shave my head next week [pentru un film]” he said.

“I will be working with the wonderful Maggie, Jessie, and other talented actors as well,” he continued.

Christian Bale, the master of transformations

Bale is no stranger to rigorous training and incredible makeovers, having been dubbed Hollywood’s “master of transformations” after losing nearly 30kg to play Trevor Reznik in 2004’s The Machinist.

He had to put all that weight back on for 2005’s “Batman Begins,” then slimmed down for the character Dicky Eklund in 2010’s “The Fighter.”

Christian recently lent his voice to the English version of the beloved Japanese animated film The Boy and the Heron.
