Emily Blunt talked about how she manages to build on-screen chemistry with her co-stars for each of her films. A guest on “The Howard Stern Show,” she revealed to the host that there were times when she felt physically sick after a kiss for a romantic scene: “I definitely didn’t like doing that with some of them.”

Emily Blunt explained what happens when two actors don’t quite get along, especially when it comes to shooting romantic scenes. She recounted that several times, “I still managed to have chemistry with people I didn’t feel comfortable working with,” shows People.

When Stern asked her: “With whom?” Blunt answered simply: “I’m not going to tell you.”

“Sometimes it’s weird. Sometimes you can have a connection by itself, without effort, but which is not visible on the screen”she confessed. “Chemistry is this weird, ethereal thing that you can’t bottle up and then buy. It’s there or not.”

“It’s easier when you have a natural relationship with someone, when everything comes naturally,” added Blunt, revealing some of the tactics she uses to build chemistry with an actor, such as trying to find something she likes about that person to convey emotion, a good connection on screen.

“I have to find something I like in anyone. He may have a nice laugh or a warm voice. I mean, it could be something random.” she continued. “But find something you like about that person or something you like about the character they’re playing and then focus on that.”

But there were times when, despite her attempts, the romantic scenes were downright terrible.

Did you want to puke when you kissed a fellow actor on set?”, Stern asked her, to which she replied: “Absolute. Absolute. I wouldn’t say it was extreme disgust, but I certainly didn’t like it.” she added.

Blunt has played alongside famous actors throughout his career, such as Matt Damon (“The Adjustment Bureau”), Tom Cruise (“Edge of Tomorrow”), Dwayne Johnson (“Jungle Cruise”), Ryan Gosling (“The Fall “) and Cillian Murphy (“Oppenheimer”).
