Ukraine’s armed forces have released a video showing 42 Russian tanks burning in the Donetsk region. The Ukrainian ministry in Kiev described the images as showing “the road to hell”.

Ukraine’s armed forces claim to have destroyed 42 Russian tanks and military vehicles in the eastern Donetsk region, writes Business Insider.

A video shared by Ukraine’s 58th Motorized Brigade shows the burned and destroyed tanks.

The images are accompanied by the message: “It appears that in recent weeks, Putin’s generals have made a large-scale sacrifice to their infernal gods, sending new forces and equipment to death and destruction. The result is dozens of Russian tanks and armored vehicles burned.”

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense shared the video on X, formerly Twitter, with the message: “The road to hell. Dozens of Russian tanks and combat vehicles were destroyed on a section of the front in the Donetsk region.”

Fighting has intensified in the Donetsk region in recent months as Russia tries to gain ground around the already occupied city of Avdiivka. Now, Russian forces are currently targeting the strategically important city of Chasiv Yar. Ukrainian officials believe that Russia plans to seize Donetsk and Luhansk regions in 2024.

The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) reported in February that Russia’s offensive in Avdiivka resulted in significant losses in troops and military equipment. The report said at the time that Russia had lost 8,800 armored fighting vehicles since the invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022.

The director general of the IISS also said in February that Russia had lost more than 3,000 tanks since the invasion began. Dutch intelligence website Oryx estimates the loss at just under 3,000.
