Aleksandr Fomin is suspected of bribing Timur Ivanov, who was detained on Tuesday, and Sergei Borodin, a close associate of the Russian deputy minister, who is also in custody, News.ro notes.

According to the court, Fomin, being in a friendly relationship with Ivanov and acting as part of an organized group, provided works and services related to the repair/reconstruction of buildings to Ivanov, Borodin and others without payment.

Also, Fomin and other persons, “acting as an organized group, contributed to the receipt by Ivanov of a particularly large bribe in the form of illegal provision of services related to a property.”

According to TASS, citing sources from law enforcement agencies, Fomin would have testified against Ivanov.

The deputy minister of Russian defense was pre-arrested for two months for bribery. Timur Ivanov was accused of accepting a “particularly large-scale” bribe, one million rubles, equivalent to at least $10,800.

The scandal is the biggest in recent years that has hit the Ministry of Defense and is considered a hard blow for the Minister of Defense, Serghei Şoigu, a close associate of Vladimir Putin.
