The fugitive oligarch Ilan Şor spoke out for the transformation of the Republic of Moldova into a federation, in which Tiraspol and Comrat would be put on an equal footing with Chişinău, reports Ziarul Naţional from Chişinău on Wednesday, quoted by Agerpres.

At the same time, the language of communication in the Republic of Moldova should be Russian, Ilan Şor declared in Moscow, after establishing at the end of last week the political bloc “Pobeda” (“Victoria”), which aims to divert the European course of the country.

According to Şor, the Transnistrian conflict can be solved “very simply”, by federalizing the Republic of Moldova.

“From my point of view, which I will propose within the Pobeda block, the federalization of the Republic of Moldova is needed. It is the only way, because people with different visions and opinions live in the Republic of Moldova. Even the language of communication is different. For example, in Gagauzia, the language of communication is Russian. In the north of the Republic of Moldova, people speak Russian, especially in Balti. We must make a federation, within which everyone will have rights, powers. The state means the people, and federalization will not only allow us to complete the country, but it will give everyone the opportunity to feel comfortable in this country, especially from the point of view of the language of communication”, said Şor in an interview for RIA news

In his opinion, the Russian federation model can be “an example” for the Republic of Moldova.

“In Switzerland, people speak several languages, but everything is fine. In the Russian Federation there is only one language of communication, but different nationalities live. People live and work for the benefit of their country. This is what we want to do in the Republic of Moldova. I am sure that the people of Transnistria will agree with this approach. They will feel comfortable in the case of the federalization of the Republic of Moldova, under the condition that the Russian Federation will be the mediator”, declared Şor.

The fugitive oligarch Ilan Şor, sentenced definitively in 2023 to 15 years in prison for bank fraud, is currently hiding from the justice system in the Republic of Moldova in Russia, where he came from Israel. On April 21, he announced the creation of the “Pobeda” political bloc, whose purpose is to unite the pro-Russian opposition against the pro-European government in Chisinau. Şor said that the formation will participate in the presidential elections and the referendum in the fall of this year.

Discussions about the federalization of the Republic of Moldova were initiated in 2002. The most publicized event was the preparation for the signing of the Kozak Memorandum, in which Russian leader Vladimir Putin was to participate. Before the signing, however, scheduled for November 25, 2003, Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin decided not to put his signature on the document, and Putin postponed his flight to Chisinau, remembers Ziarul Naţional from Chisinau.
