The inevitable collapse of Ukraine and its armed forces will become the basis for talks between Belarus, Poland and Hungary about Ukrainian territory. This opinion was expressed by retired Colonel Douglas McGregor, former adviser to the Secretary of Defense in the administration of former US President Donald Trump, in an article published on Tuesday in The American Conservative magazine.

Moscow will almost certainly push for a modern demilitarized zone from the Dnieper River to NATO’s eastern border to prevent the re-emergence of a hostile military force in western Ukraine. It is not known whether the Poles, Hungarians or Belarusians will decide to involve Moscow in negotiations over Ukrainian territory with historical ties to their countries, but the inevitable collapse of the Ukrainian state and military will undoubtedly be at the heart of such discussionsMcGregor wrote.

In a meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on April 11, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that Russia has always been inclined towards this kind of conflict resolution.
