The Holy Light will reach Botosani from Jerusalem this year as well. The tradition, inaugurated by Father Patriarch Daniel in 2009, continues this year. The Holy Light will be brought from Jerusalem, on the evening of Saturday, May 4, by Father Archimandrite Teofil Anăstăsoaie, the Superior of the Settlements of the Romanian Patriarchate at the Holy Places. This will be offered, as always, to the delegates of the dioceses of the Romanian Patriarchate present at the “Otopeni” International Airport.
The diocesan centers, through the deacons, will then distribute the Holy Light to each parish. The same evening, between 19:00 and 20:30, the ceremony of receiving the Holy Light in the Patriarchal Cathedral will take place on the Hill of Joy. The Archdiocese of Suceava and Rădăuţi, in partnership with CJ Suceava, will organize the bringing of the Holy Light again this year. A delegation will leave from Suceava to Bucharest, as happens every year, to bring the Holy Light to the churches in Suceava and Botoşani counties, but also in certain regions of Ukraine.
Last year, the Monitor reported live the moment when the Holy Light was brought to the airport in Suceava.
The ritual of bringing the light was not interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic or the strict travel rules, from 2020-2021.
The miraculous ignition of the fire in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem is the most famous event of the Orthodox Easter service and, at the same time, the oldest miracle, being first recorded at the end of the 4th century.
