Energy infrastructures caught fire on Wednesday in the Russian region of Smolensk, about 400 km from the border with Ukraine, after drone attacks, regional governor Vasili Anokhin announced, AFP informs, Agerpres reports.

“Our region is once again targeted by Ukrainian drone attacks,” the governor wrote on Telegram. “Very likely, as a result of the enemy attack against some civilian sites of energy infrastructure, fires broke out,” the governor added, without specifying the targeted sites.

The attacks did not cause human casualties, he added at the same time. The Russian Emergencies Ministry sent rescue teams to the affected sites.

Another drone attack on Wednesday targeted the special economic zone in the city of Lipetsk, located about 400 km from the Ukrainian border, but further south, which houses mainly metallurgical and pharmaceutical enterprises, the governor of this region, Igor Artamonov, announced on Telegram.

“The criminal regime in Kiev tried to attack infrastructures in the industrial area of ​​Lipetsk,” Artamonov said. He did not inform about the existence of any victims and gave assurances that the residential areas are not threatened.

The Ukrainian military has increased its drone attacks on Russian territory in recent months, targeting energy infrastructure in particular.
