A lesser-known Greek island among tourists has been rated as the cheapest summer destination in Europe following an analysis of this summer’s holiday packages.

Although it is not as popular as Rhodes, Mykonos or Santorini, it has clean beaches, white sand, crystal clear waters, colorful villages and taverns serving delicious traditional food. It is about the island of Kalymnos.

The specialist review publication Which? reviewed more than 4,500 package vacation deals for the first week of August to find the best prices. Thus, according to the analysis, it appears that the average price of a seven-night vacation in Europe was $1,046.

Thus, in Pothia, the capital of the island of Kalymnos, the cheapest vacation package costs 997 dollars, the equivalent of 4,606 lei, Greek Reporter reports. Pothia is a delightful mix of whitewashed or brightly colored houses, overlooking the Aegean Sea and with plenty of activities for tourists, such as an open-air cinema, but also museums or monasteries.

The island’s most popular resort for its beaches is Massouri, where the average cost of a week’s stay is $1,075 per person, which is about 4,967 lei.

According to the same cited analysis, Greece offers the cheapest packages, with four of the top 10 destinations occupied by the Greek islands, being Kalymnos, Thassos, Lefkada and Skopelos.
