It admits that the four perpetrators of the attack were “besieged” in a forest while trying to flee after the attack. Three of them received instructions to shoot directly with submachine guns at the people in the concert hall, and the fourth to set fire to the space with bombs and incendiary materials to “make any rescue operation more difficult”, the article states.

Russia agrees that the Islamists are behind the attack, but has not yet elucidated its motivation. The head of the Federal Security Service (FSB), Aleksandr Bortnikov, claims that the Ukrainian and Western secret services would have “facilitated” the attack. The four terrorists were arrested in the Russian region of Bryansk. According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, they were heading towards the border with Ukraine, where a “window” would have been prepared for them by the Ukrainian side to cross the border.
