The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center announces that an earthquake occurred in southern Greece this morning. The earthquake had an intensity of 5.7 on the Richter scale. The earthquake is significant in the context in which the depth at which it occurred is 17 kilometers.

Many testimonies of Greeks who felt the earthquake are from Kalamata, 85 kilometers from the epicenter, but there are also testimonies from Tholo (45 km), Zakynthos (65 km), Patras (121 km) and many other areas of Greece, more close to the epicenter.

“Very long and intense double earthquake. No damage, however,” writes someone from Argostoli, located 121 km from the epicenter of the earthquake, on EMSC. “The car moved back and forth… very strongly in the Spiantza area,” writes another person, located 49 km from the epicenter. Another person describes: “there was not much noise, but the house moved for a long time, from north to south” (Gaitani, 68 km).

“A fairly significant set of tremors lasting about a minute or so. The biggest felt in our part of the island for several months” writes a local from Zakynthos. “Very long duration and continuous shaking without noise. The lamps continued to flicker for a long time” notes a local from Lechaina (68 km from the epicenter).

There are hundreds of such testimonies from local residents.
