The Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began over two years ago, heralds a new era in Europe, a period characterized by hostility, said the prime minister of the Polish government, Donald Tusk.

“I know it sounds devastating, especially for the younger generation, but we have to get used to the fact that a new era has begun: the pre-war era. I am not exaggerating; this is becoming clearer every day,” Tusk told the German daily Die Welt, according to Agerpres. “I don’t want to scare anyone, but war is no longer a concept of the past. It is real and it started over two years ago”, continued Tusk.

In his opinion, the most worrying thing now is that practically any scenario is possible: “We haven’t encountered a situation like this since 1945.” That year, World War II ended with the surrender of Hitler’s Germany.

At the same time, Donald Tusk stated that we are witnessing a revolution in the European mentality, characterized by the fact that no one questions the need for common defense anymore.

“Let’s look at Germany, where there has been an enormous transformation. Today, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Social Democratic Party (SPD) are competing to see which of them is more pro-Ukrainian,” explained the Prime Minister of the Polish government.

Regarding the instrumentalization of the issue of migrants by Russia, Tusk spoke for a more consistent protection of the EU’s external borders. “The European Union as a whole, as a strong organization, must be mentally prepared to fight for the security of our borders and our territory,” he concluded.
