Russia is preparing a new offensive in Ukraine at the beginning of 2024, the army led from Moscow having very big plans to conquer new regions of strategic importance, while the Ukrainians are struggling to defend themselves against the attacks.
Russia knows that Ukraine is extremely vulnerable now, without the help it received in the past from the West, due to the elections taking place throughout the European Union and in the fall in the USA, so it will try to take advantage of the moment to conquer territories which until recently were forbidden to him.
“The arrival of spring in Ukraine brings two kinds of respite. The warmer weather means that Russia’s frenzied missile and drone attacks on electricity and gas infrastructure won’t be quite so unbearable. And a new heat comes the mud and a month or so in which military movement becomes difficult.
This should stem the tide of Russian attacks along the front line that stretches across eastern and southern Ukraine. But it won’t last. As spring turns to summer, there are fears that Russia will mount another major offensive, as it did last year.
And Ukraine’s ability to hold back this time looks far less certain now than it did then. This is why they urgently need to mobilize more troops and build more robust frontline defenses.
Ukrainians blame world politicians for their predicament. Preoccupied with the Middle East, upcoming elections and their own economic problems, Ukraine’s Western allies are distracted. As we report, the decision by Trump-supporting Republicans in Congress to block the Biden administration’s $61 billion military package for Ukraine is having an effect on the front lines and above the cities of Ukraine. Ukrainian soldiers are forced to ration their shells, while Russia outnumbers them in some places by five to one.”
